Nat Sciver top-scored with 75 from 74 balls as England Women defeat a New Zealand XI by 20 runs in a 50-above heat-up match in Queenstown.
England – who will enjoy the whole New Zealand Women of all ages side in a few ODIs and as numerous T20 internationals from February 23 – posted 299-9, with Sciver hanging 10 fours and incorporating 80 with Amy Jones (29) for the fourth wicket.
Danni Wyatt (35) and Tammy Beaumont (27) posted a 1st-wicket stand of 66, when Katherine Brunt (41 off 29) bossed a ninth-wicket stand of 44 with Sophie Ecclestone (14 not out).
Most of England’s batters relished a respectable hit – skipper Heather Knight scoring 28 and Fran Wilson 27 – with only Lauren Winfield-Hill (2) and Sarah Glenn () failing to submit double figures.
Lauren Down scored 97 for the hosts in reply but she was run out by Wyatt in the 44th around as the New Zealand XI finished on 279-6.
Knight applied nine bowlers, with four of them – spinner Ecclestone and seamers Kate Cross, Freya Davies and Tash Farrant – getting a person wicket apiece.
England did not perform any 50-over cricket in 2020 thanks to the coronavirus pandemic and opener Beaumont admits it took her a whilst to get to grips with the structure yet again.
“It was really unusual, in fact, attempting to remember how to make an innings! It was very different,” she stated.
“You have to be disciplined in ODI cricket, in phrases of how you want to go about your innings. It was great to be back again out there, everybody bought a superior runout.
“You in all probability would have favored a pair additional batters to be egocentric and virtually be dragged off the pitch in a heat-up video game but of course Nat Sciver confirmed us how it truly is carried out. She batted genuinely perfectly in the middle.
